110 Songs with spoken bits in them

What exactly makes an artist think that they can suddenly stop singing and start speaking instead? I’m not sure that this episode will reveal the answer, but the chances are it will be lots of fun!

Tim, that version with Elvis cracking up is just CREEPY! DO I dare listen to all of the rest of these? LOL.

No Ballboy? No Belle & Sebastian? No Aidan John Moffat? What’s with you people?

Welcome Greer!

I agree with Nat, the elvis track was very “laughing clown” scary.

I thought the episode was fairly good, actually.

Thanks for the welcome! I guess The King can do anything he wants- funny how the backup singers just kept on.

I’d like to second the welcome to Greer.

I like the thought of ELvis being this drug fuelled scary clown who treats his band really badly .. so badly in fact that they have to keep on playing when he cracks the worst joke in the world.

Evil Elvis = Evilvis?

it sounded to me like he was cracking up at the backup singer doing a theramin impression. what was the worst joke?

He swaps the line ‘do you gaze at your doorstep and picture me there’ for ‘do you gaze at your bald head and wish you had hair’. From that point on his is uncontrollable.

Oh Elvis .. you are sooooo funny. Not.

Wow, that IS bad.

Don’t do drugs, you guys. At least not before a public performance.

That’s right. Don’t do drugs, peeps. I want them all to myself! ;)

Might I say that I never, ever tire of The Shat’s “Common People” or anything from Tenacious D or IZ. Fabulous podcast, even with the lousy vocal interludes.

I’m with you there Nat. It’s funny though, when I was listening to the cast I had to reach down between my legs … to pick up my iPod that I’d dropped. Fnar.

;)

Tee hee.

I don’t think our friend FiL has heard this podcast yet. I’m sure he’ll have some sort of comment!

Oh, and Brad, I’m sorry for the loss of your friend. Very sad.

Indeed, I’ve not had a chance to listen yet. But I’ve a looooong planeride coming up on Sunday - can’t wait!!

Lemon Jelly - Ramblin Man would have been my suggestion. :)

Delighted to see you hear Greer…it took me about six months to pluck up the courage to join in here after first hearing about it….you took about six hours!!! But that’s a high standard of song and contribution you’ve set.

Matthew - Its bad enough that listeners have to decipher my dulcet tones without inflicting more gutteral language from West/Central Scotland on them. That’s my excuse for skipping the morte obvious candidates this week.

PS : Brad - that was a very touching intro. Nice songs too.

see you hear Greer??? Good lord, I’m no typing as badly as I speak…..

no typing…….you see?????

I need a holiday.

I thought ‘no typing’ was just you doing dialect :)

Welcome Greer and thoughts to Brad. I love songs with talking bits, absolutely love them, this week’s podcast is a gem amongst gems.

And I wonder if Matthew should have a few picks every week just so he can play the songs he thinks someone else should have played as well as his own. :)

Oh crap..my track is at the wrong speed..sorry..it sounds lame, agghhh…apart from my track i thought it was a great show !!! Really liked the damn builders and MC Quake…always good to hear van halen nat !

Right, I FINALLY listened to last week’s episode - I fear sleep took priority on the flight… :( But there was sooo much goodness that I feel compelled to comment, despite my tardiness…

Dearest Nats, I did indeed wet myself. Good thing your selection came on when I was in the car - I think the rubber floormats limited the damage. But now I’m going to go around all day yelling PA-NA-MAH-AH-AHHH!! ;)

Hello Greer! Let me add my belated voice to the chorus of welcomes. Lovely to have you on board!!

Oh Brad, I’m sorry to hear of your friend’s passing. Your tribute was spot on and gorgeous - and brought tears to my eyes.

Dearest ZB, that is an absolutely captivating bit of music! Many thanks.

Hey Bob, I think I will sit my kids down and play them that track. They’ll thank me later…

Thom, a million thanks for bringing yet another herd of eighties memories crashing through the wall of my subconscious :)

Fantastic work, everyone!! Now to cue up episode 111…

Hi FIL, thanks for the welcome. It was you who played The Orchids on the previous podcast, wasn’t it? I went right over to iTunes and bought that song after I heard it and I’m still playing it every day.

I also thought it was great to hear Panama on this one!
