137 Songs with whistling in them

When you meet temptation and the urge is very strong ….

I’m sure that Tricia suggested this topic for the podcast because she knows that nothing is better for expressing your happiness than a really good whistle. So pucker up and squeeze one out!

Thanks to all of you for putting your lips together for this episode. Next time we will be starting a series about the human body that was suggested by JC aka The Vinyl Villian. Our first stop will be right at the centre of things with The Heart. If you would like to participate you’ll find some instructions nestling over here.

Also, could you please take time to suggest the music you would like to hear in this year’s Festive Fifty. All you need to do is:

1. Choose up to 50 (yes fifty) songs that were released in 2008 that you like. If you can only think of 10 .. donÒ€ℒt worry .. just send 10!

2. Send the list to contrast.podcast@gmail.com starting with your favourite track at number 1.

3. Do this by Sunday 16th November at the latest .. and try to get other people to vote too .. please!!

4. I will compile a short list of the top 100 songs which we will vote on to be in the top 50 and then start inviting people to record introductions.

5. Any questions? …. good … get thinking!!!

Glad to see DJ Riko made it into this week’s ‘cast.

Indeed. He was a popular choice!

I should point out (because Dr Scholly forgot to) that Geert Chatrou recently won the world whistling championship. That boy sure can blow!

i’m so dumb! i thought there’d be an abundance–or at least one or two–of songs by andrew bird, so i didn’t contribute!! (kicks self in the rear).

Hey Marcy, Nervous Tic Motion To The Left was my second choice of song. However, the version I had didn’t do the whistling justice. (Of course better than I could do!!)

I’m loving DJ Riko, trying to get all of the songs right! (Including the one from Roger Miller that was in the Disney “Robin Hood” movie.) So cool.

Yeah I avoided Andrew Bird, too. Weird. In my mind, a very obvious choice, and probably in lots of other people’s minds, too.

Good ‘cast, everyone! And, if my calculations are correct, it promotes Mr. Smith to “All-Star” status!

..where he deserves to be, James! πŸ™‚

wow, this was one of my favorite ‘casts yet. great theme choice, tricia. i loved every song–even that light-hearted rammstein ditty!

zb–that song was beautiful! i’m so glad he found his dog . . .

eiron–that song made me want to sing “keep them doggies rollin’, rollin’ rollin’ rollin, rawhide!” am i right, folks? nat, can you back me up here? πŸ˜‰

fil–you go above and beyond every week and i can’t tell you how much i appreciate the effort you put into your intros. and thank the good lord that they stopped elvis before he could do any more harm.

chris–i loved that mash-up. keep ’em coming!

“oh dirk, you have to play something with recognition value sometimes” lol!!!

“ah, another satisfied customer!”

I was going to select The Men They Couldn’t Hang’s version of Rawhide as a B-side. But the system wouldn’t let me. It picked a reasonably decent alternative, however. Now I just need to get my vinyl ripped to my computer…

He DOES deserve to be, Nat πŸ™‚

I wonder how many of his appearances have been Beatles/John Lennon covers.

Still cannot whistle, but James has offered the next best solution.

Tim–definitely a satisfied customer here! Dr. Scholly was a very cool creation.

Smiled my way through the whole podcast. And FiL…you must be a comedy writer. Always clever and endlessly entertaining.
