Well, James, looks like our Hold Steady love didn’t carry over to most. That’s ok, as it’s soaring “fuck it, let’s have a good time” attitude got me through the roughest year in recent times.

Good to see Fleet Foxes in at number one and another showing from Vampire Weekend. What I’m happiest about is seeing Brett and Jemaine at number 7! Who knew that comedy could rank so highly in our little community!

Hats off to everyone, especially our friend, Tim, for all of his number crunching and juggling of intros!
Happy 2009!

Well, there it is! For me, a mixture of the well known and the still yet-to-explore.

Fantastic to see Fleet Foxes up there, although I must admit that I was surprised to see it so high up the list. Like Marcy said, I love it, but didn’t realise that so many others would feel the same.

Was also surprised to see so much MGMT up the top – I knew they were popular, I just didn’t realise they were THAT popular! Am also thrilled about British Sea Power, a band that I’ve only just discovered thanks to part 1 of the CP.

Loved ‘Business Time’ too – I hadn’t actually heard that one yet, laughed myself silly!

And BIG congrats to Jim for his beautiful Icelandic pronounciation! I can manage to say ‘Sigur Ros’ properly, but that’s about as much as I can handle. Very impressive!

Wrapping up this essay now….
I was reluctant to participate in the CP at first (weird self-recorded voice phobia!) but I’ve loved being a part of it these last few months. Big thanks to you Tim for all your hard work and for giving us such a fun way to share the music we love.

Happy new year everybody – bring on 2009!

Tim, you’ve done great work with these podcasts. Very glad I was introduced to your site (Thanks Agnes). Looking forward to participating in more next year! Happy New Year.

Weeee great job everyone! 🙂
And special thanks to Tim for all his hard work putting this and every other CP together through out the years.
Cheers to the New Year!

Happy new year everybody – bring on 2009!

Thanks for the love agnes, and what a spectacular list we came up with folks. Nice job all around. Happy New Year!

Happy New Year Everyone.

Its a damn fine splendid Festive 50 without any question, and I cant wait to listen to the final part. As ever, a huge big welcome to those first-time contributors….is that Mrs SexyLoser lurking around at #13??

Finally, for now, as I intend to return after I’ve had a listen, …..

…..I dont think there’s enough words out there to say how much I’ve appreciated the time, energy and devotion applied to the CP this past 12 months by Mr Timothy Young – and I guess that’s a view held by every contributor and listener.

Thanks amigo. I’ll buy you at least a nice half-pint of lager-shandy next time I’m in London.

Nat – I think we both know that this was a constructive summer 🙂 And you’re right. The Hold Steady would be cool with not making the list. They’d say “Hey, enjoy the music that’s there, man.”

So did anyone else notice how many CP All-stars made the Festive 50 this year? Elvis Costello, The Fall, Billy Bragg, They Might Be Giants, Nick Cave, and Ben Folds. That’s 12% of this list!

Great job everyone! Each episode was phenomenol and I kept thinking “How could this list get any better?” And then it did.

Happy New Year!

I’ve listened…and there really isnt much to add except the CP Nation has shown it has great taste.

But special applause to Jim for his pronunciations (although given that probably none of us speak Icelandic, we need to take his word for it that he’s been accurate.

PS : Nice intro Marcy. From now on, I know I’ll think of you every time I hear that song.

What a great year of music! Marcy, thanks for topping the list with your intro to White Winter Hymnal. I’m glad it saved your little head.
Here’s to 2009!
XXXOOO

this episode was fabulous–i’m with james, i kept thinking it couldn’t get better and then it did!

i have to thank our dear friend tim, first for everything he does to make this possible for all of us, and secondly for asking me to do the number one song intro. it was a real honor.

and many, many thanks for all the kindness, friends, in particular greer, as i don’t think i’ve ever been called super-cool in my whole entire life! : )

i love you guys!

Happy New Year Contrast Nation !

Happy New Year to everyone, folks: the F50 was a real treat … I was really pleased to discover so much stuff previously unknown to me and also to see so many Vampire Weekend – tunes in the list. And yes, JC, Mrs Loser did the intro for the #13!

Let me keep it short & sweet:

CP Nation, you are awesome and you rule.

Dearest TiM, you are the awesomest of the awesome. You have mixed ether and electrons and music into something beautiful!!

The bestest of the best to you all for 2009!!!

You know, I’ve heard that MGMT song a lot this year, but I never realized just how ‘effen great it is. Damn!

Happy New Year Everyone!

It’s a real delight to come back online and find so many lovely comments from you all. It warms my heart to know that my efforts are so pleasing.

🙂

Thanks again to every one of you for taking part in our little musical community … it is indeed a fine thing with fantastic tastes. I’ll be using the FF to guide me on the purchase of a little new year listening that is long overdue.

Oh … and guess who got himself a Flight of the Conchords calender for 2009 … Yeeeeeehah!

Must jump in and add my huge thanks, too, to Tim for making CP so terrific and for all of your hard work (while making it look so easy).

Happy New Year to all. I have learned so much about music and everyone’s personal connections to some tunes….it is a true treat and I look forward to every episode.

Loved the Festive Fifty. Like Tim I have some new music purchases I need to make. And I don’t have a 2009 calendar yet…FOTC sounds like a good one!

Ace list, thanks, so ace as to make me download the podcast too. Just a teeny quibble – surely ‘Time to Pretend’ is the MGMT song of choice? And where is Santogold? Otherwise a lush smorgasboard. Nice work. Happy New Year.

splendourpangs (what a cool name!)–

santogold came in at #36 and “time to pretend” was #2. couldn’t do much better than that!

Interesting to see someone else’s festive fifty …

i think our list is much more diverse and contrasty.
