I’m having trouble getting past “ball based joy.”

Final thing to add, before I stop comment-spamming for the night, is the source of my ramblings. It comes from an old entry I wrote in this blog, which is getting a little more attention than my “grown-up” blog at the moment.

That Andy Griffith bit reminds me of my dad, since he owned the recording. He got mad when we little imps played it so much that it got horribly scratched.

I really enjoyed this episode, even if there were some crazy bits.

Also, Eiron, I hope you know that you have me beat in terms of holding the dorkish crown. I have to work on having an intro where I spout off decimals and results of experimentation

Down here it’s all about AFL. Or rugby if you’re from the north, but we won’t talk about that, cos that’s not real footy either.

I go for a team that is both the most loved and the most hated here in Oz - the Collingwood Magpies.

We haven’t won the flag since 1990, though we did make 2 finals in a row a few years ago - we lost both of them to the Brisbane Lions (a bloody interstate team!!) and the scars are yet to fade.

What makes AFL real footy, I hear you say? Our boys don’t wear helmets and shoulder pads. And when someone tackles them (or indeed, maybe just runs within a foot of them, or breathes on them or something) they don’t drop instantly to the ground, rolling around grabbing some random body part and crying to the ref.

AFL: the sport of men.

I thought chasing skirts was the sport of men?!

..or at least…straight men.

Now, let’s see. It’s taken nearly three years to get to episode 148, so we’ll be at epi 442 right around 2015. Will there still be internet then?

Eiron - That’s an easy one to answer. It’s a two word answer in fact .. ’snooker loopy’. I rest my case.

Tim, that LINK! It’s so bad, it’s good!

I didn’t click on it. I know well enough that when the word “Snooker” is placed alongside the word “Loopy” only bad things can happen. I have been exposed to that track before; it’s so bad, it’s awful.

Which brings me to another of my peeves: appending mundane activities or objects with the word “mania” as if this in itself will make them exciting, deridedly making whatever it is sound more like a mental condition in the process. The Beatles can pull it off, because the fanaticism was akin to a state of euphoric madness (loss of self-awareness, dizziness, etc.). Wrestlemania I’ll let by as a genuine illness too. But some things are unforgivable.

I’m quite sad that after two days no-one has picked up on the fact that our good friend ZB makes an appearance on the Scotland World Cup Squad song about 28 seconds in….

I’m still catching up on a few previous episodes! I’ll pick up on the fact when you’re all thanking your deities, the stars, or whatever else is appropriate that I’m keeping my intro short in next week’s episode.

Great episode and I absolutely love the Hitchers’ song.

Yes .. but the risk of ‘Snooker Loopy’ making a showing is too high. We just can’t take chances like that I’m afraid.

Oh, and I love that Hitchers song too. I now intend to always reply to the question ‘what are you watching’ with the response ‘a programme about art’.

it’s a shame episode 144 couldn’t have just been called ‘Gross’. Can we have a ‘Gross’ podcast soon anyway?

mjrc, thanks for reminding Agnes that not all of us speak the language. When I think of a Mighty Pie, I’m either looking at a dessert or a cow pasture.

Tim, kudos to you for whipping up a delightful intro. Speaking of food, that chicken turned out quite nicely last weekend, thank you.

I second a food CP theme, as well as gross. Perhaps we could combine them?

Snooker Looper is not NSFW, as such. But you might not want anybody to be around if you do play it. Including yourself.

Dylan’s Hurricane is another good shout for the Snooker Theme That Should Never Be.

Somebody in this podcast is in a tournament-winning team, having stayed on top of their league table this week, but she’s not telling.

I found JC’s and Stuart’s songs to be completely captivating. Really good listening.
