From 25:22-34:58, it looks like somebody was having way too much fun choosing the order of the songs.

I wonder if that was around the time Tim was inviting me on facebook to say a rude word and see if it would make him laugh?
By adam on 02.04.09 9:24 am
hehe all the different ways all of this can be taken… great work everyone!
By Rachel on 02.04.09 10:05 am
Looking forward to listening to this - looks like a good mix of familiar and unfamiliar artistes. Unfortunately teh internetz were against me once again - Here’s what I tried to send in.
By Christophosphorous on 02.04.09 10:36 am
seems I already shared something secret in THIS episode …
By Dirk on 02.04.09 10:38 am
Have just learned that Fortyone has made his entire back catalogue free to download. It’s weird stuff, but - I think - extremely interesting. Here the place.

I love this podcast but wish there was a ban on people trying to do comedy skits in their song intros. They are never funny and go on way too long when I just want to hear some music (along with a few thoughts on why the person selected the track). Putting in lengthy interchanges between wacky voiced characters trying hard but failing utterly to be funny completely destroys the mood. This is why so few musicians have comedians as opening acts, and why so many comedians who’ve opened for rock bands have been heckled and had things thrown at them. In this case, however, we have no way to signal just how painful this shit is other than an impotent comment such as this which will most likely be ignored.

So, this is the second time we’ve heard that Ballboy song on the CP. Who would’ve thunk it?
By James! on 02.05.09 3:11 am
Great stuff, as usual!
James: sorry, I hadn’t been aware of the fact that the Ballboy tune has already been used previously …
John Q.: are those Po! the same who had a tune in the early 90’s called - I think - ‘I’ve Been Waiting Here Since Monday’? If so, do you have it in your collection as well?
All the best,
Dirk
By Dirk on 02.06.09 9:16 am
Dirk - It was perfectly appropriate both times! No need to apologize
By James! on 02.06.09 2:19 pm
I just found Perdido Durango’s comment above in the moderation queue and thought I should approve it (as I do with any comments which aren’t spam) so you can all give some feedback …
… personally I don’t think the podcast would have any personality without the comedy, characters and general variety of wonderfulness that the intros have. Please do come and take part in the podcast one day Perdido … everyone is welcome and perhaps if you take part you will feel less ‘impotent’ … and I can assure you that nobody is ignored here. The CP Nation is a friendly one … so thanks for your opinion and I do hope you continue to listen.

Dirk,
That would be ‘Sunday Never Comes Around’ which is from the same LP as ‘Bigger Wall’ - ‘Ducks And Drakes’. I think I have most of their stuff - four LPs, a compilation and a few singles. Definitely a lost gem.

Perdido, I love the CP as it is. If you don’t care for the intros, simply skip them and get to the music. Those of us who look forward to the intros, no matter what the participant has to offer, believe this is what sets this podcast apart from the rest. Even if I’m not thrilled with a particular song, I enjoy what the person, who took the time to chose it and share something, has to bring to listeners. It’s a great, big, wide world, and I have learned so much from listening here, and I have laughed, cried, rolled my eyes, and enjoyed every minute.

The reason I listen to the Contrast Podcast is for the variety of personalities, as much as the variety of music, if not - in some cases - a little moreso. I welcome the commentary. If I just wanted to listen to music (particularly looking for something that suited my tastes), then I’d just go over to Last.fm and play my Neighbourhood. But I like a little bit more personality than that. Many intros are short; it is only occasionally you get a longer one. Consider them features like you might find on a radio show; not all of them will appeal to you but they will to somebody. You do also have the magic ability to skip ahead a bit if your humour is ‘flaccid’.
By Eiron Page on 02.06.09 10:17 pm
Wow. I saw that a bunch of comments had been added, but i had no idea what was waiting for me behind the link.
I think we can all agree that we get our “Contrast” fix from the intros as well as from the music.
It takes guts to contribute to the CP. And I hope that anyone who stumbles across this site recognizes that, but also recognizes that all are welcome here. I played a John Mayer song a while back and got absolutely no crap for it at all, because it said what I wanted to say, and really that’s what I come here for.
But it also takes guts to bring the issue into this forum. And for that, I salute you, Perdido. I hope that you’re still reading the feedback and have more to say.
In closing this huge comment, I just want to say that I have a feeling there will never be a ban on anything on the CP. And that’s why I come back week after week.
By James! on 02.07.09 4:29 am
I have to back you up there James. I have to admit fast forwarding through the odd song or two at times, but I always give a listen to the intros. Even if they don’t make me laugh or don’t particularly interest me, I always appreciate the effort that people put into their intros. It does take guts to contribute to something like this, not knowing exactly who will be listening and how they will react, and that’s the beauty of the CP.
However I do respect your opinion Perdido and I’m glad you brought it up because that’s what I reckon the CP is all about - a whole bunch of people from diverse locations and backgrounds sharing their thoughts and opinions.
By Agnes on 02.07.09 6:11 am
WHAT? Peeps fast forward through my songs? AAAAACK!
(I do it, too, but I ain’t fessin’ up to which ones!)
By nat on 02.07.09 3:38 pm
I half-expect people to fast forward through mine each week. Still working on getting the “normal” music back onto my computer. Didn’t realise till I started how much of the weird stuff actually comes from my CD collection. When it comes time to rip my vinyl again, things’ll really get strange.
By Eiron Page on 02.07.09 3:47 pm
if i were more technologically adept, my intros would be much weirder!
about those intros, tho, they are equally if not more important to me than the music and so i would not change a thing about them. they’re a little glimpse into the heart and soul of each contributor–some of whom are wackier than others–and they mean the world to me.
i remember my first time–i was so nervous! but everyone was so welcoming and encouraging that i came back. and back, and back–well, you get the picture. so perdido, i say to you, don’t diss it until you’ve tried it! who knows what kind of inner ham you have living inside you who might emerge when confronted with a microphone . . .
;-)
By mjrc on 02.07.09 4:16 pm
oh yeah, i forgot–i love love love the tiny! thanks, chris. and i’m also digging the little birdy, agnes.
By mjrc on 02.07.09 4:18 pm
Well, I’ve been trying to screw up the courage for months now! And screw up is the right term for sure!
This series of comments has really made me more sure that I will submit a contribution very soon, so thanks Pedro and all you wonderful friends. For this week I was gonna groove you all with this song by Puscifer (!) called Queen B. I’ll work on getting something in soon. Thanks Tim, for all you do, xoxoxo
By Tart on 02.07.09 11:12 pm
Hey there Perdido…..chill out. Its an entirely free world. If an intro begins to bug you, then move your cursor forward to the beginning of the song.
Let me bring you into a little secret. Its even OK to skip past a song that you really despise (oops that’s next week’s show isn’t it?.)
I actually think some of the other contributors have been far too nice to you a bit earlier.
You say you love this podcast but still you want to say:-
“In this case, however, we have no way to signal just how painful this shit is other than an impotent comment such as this which will most likely be ignored.”
Given there’s hardly been an episode without at least one contributor making an effort to do something light-hearted, then you cant be all that familiar with the concept.
I said chill ou earlier…..I really meant ‘get yourself a fucking life.’
By jc on 02.08.09 12:19 am
Oh good Marcy, I’m glad!
By Agnes on 02.08.09 1:28 am
Well,
first of all: John Q.: is there any chance you can send an mp3 - file of this tune to the mail-adress on the Sexyloser-site? Would be highly appreciated, mate!
Then: I think I understand the point Perdido Durango (what a great nick, by the way … I only wish I could see this film again!!)is trying to make, I would have chosen other words to describe it though …. I listen to the CP on my way to work and back in the car, it’s burnt on a CD and my old fashioned technical equipment doesn’t allow me to fast forward at all. There are times (early in the morning, mind you) when some of the intros become a bit moo much and I sit there, driving, and think to myself ‘Oh boy, now some music would be good’. This doesn’t happen very often though, but it happens. On the other side, when recording my submissions at home, I only wish I had more technical knowledge and/or would speak English more fluently to put something ‘more’ into my intros. So you see, Perdido: it’s not that easy at all … there are two sides to the story.
By Dirk on 02.08.09 11:21 am
And if it weren’t for the intros I wouldn’t be able to imagine Dirk listening to the intros in his car as he makes his way through 64 traffic lights, or something like that! And loved the Ballboy song, Dirk.
By Tricia on 02.08.09 7:30 pm
…. actually it’s 32 one way … and another 32 when I wanna get home, Tricia. Glad to hear you liked the Ballboy-tune!
By Dirk on 02.09.09 10:01 am
I am sorry to have missed this one. I’ve been having one of those blogger-familiar episodes where I just can’t seem to squeeze enough blog activities in between the rest of life.
Thanks, Nat, for bringing in TMBG! One of my considered choices was “She’s Actual Size.”
By Linda on 02.10.09 7:52 pm
I have a message from the one they call ‘Tim’. He tells me that with the money he’s made from selling our secrets he has fled to Las Vegas, stopping off briefly in the Eastern Bloc to free the various transgender incarnations of FiL and bribing the German road traffic authorities on the way back to sort out those traffic lights for Dirk. A brief detour to Victoria allowed him to wave at Agnes, inadvertently fanning the flames and causing the Australian prime minister to get VERY upset and place a price on Tim’s head. He has made sure that he has appeared in front of each and every one of the contributors, although using a mind trick picked up from Mentok they will have thought they were just looking in the mirror, and has pointed and laughed at them, causing brief flickers of insecurity to grow into big bouncing babies in their heads when all they thought they were doing was checking they didn’t have any spinach caught between their teeth. My people in Vegas tell me that he is reduced to his last thousand and if ‘150′ doesn’t come up next time on the ‘mega-roulette’ table he should be back to post this week’s episode very shortly.
There is a shorter, blander and altogether more straightforward version of this message which you can have if you really want it.
By adam on 02.11.09 9:00 am
I can well cope with this version, Adam: priceless!
By Dirk on 02.11.09 10:48 am
So, Tim’s either sick or busy as hell, right?
By nat on 02.11.09 4:35 pm
As Adam says the real reason is really boring. My broadband was offline last night so I couldn’t do anything. Normal servive will be resumed in about 40 mins.
:)
By tim.young on 02.11.09 5:03 pm
thank god! catastrophic worrier that i am, i had you just about dead and buried . . .
By mjrc on 02.11.09 5:39 pm
LOL marcy. Wake me up when Tim’s done with that boring explanation.
By nat on 02.11.09 7:09 pm
I’m curious when the last time Vic from Muruch saw any irish pub acts or a celtic punk band.
