What if you haven’t turned 21 yet?
By Rhiannah on 02.11.09 6:14 pm
Hmm … you might have to take a back seat and listen to all the old folks telling you how fantastic it was ‘back in the day’ .. either that or tell us what you think you are going to like when you get there.
By tim.young on 02.11.09 6:21 pm
holy ghost, I’m blocked in 1982 and, at this time, I’m two years behind 21…
By zb on 02.11.09 6:42 pm
CONGRATS To TIm and Agnes! July is a great month to be born! (I am a July baby!) WOOT. I’m happy for you both!
By nat on 02.11.09 7:12 pm
I am laughing and thinking DURAN FUCKING DURAN, jc! priceless!
By nat on 02.11.09 7:31 pm
Ok, so Rhiannah and I tie for the most heinous secret.
I listened to all of the intros first, and now I’m going to relisten to the whole thing.
I loved the secrets! Now how much are you paying me to keep them.
By nat on 02.11.09 7:43 pm
Agnes and Tim. Great secret. Chuffed to bits for you.
By jc on 02.11.09 8:20 pm
Tart!!!!! How great to hear your voice. How salaciously wonderful.
Dirk…..that is just the most wonderful thing that I’ve head since Agnes and Time a few minutes ago. Way to go amigo. Way to go.
Greer….you’re very welcome. And I’m glad your secret is out!! Good luck.
Adam???? Howard FUCKING Jones!!!!!!!:-)
Sorry guys, I’ll need to come back and listen to Part 2 later.
By jc on 02.11.09 8:33 pm
Congrats Agnes and Tim!!! What a wonderful secret to share! Happy Happy Joy Joy!!!
And thanks for not putting my contribution too close to yours, I feel enough like a dirty old perv now, no need to be near the wee one.
Sorry, didn’t realize one was supposed to tell the secret in the intro, I just let the song speak for me xoxoxo
By tart on 02.11.09 8:52 pm
No, Tart, that was perfect!
By nat on 02.11.09 9:02 pm
and, now that I’ve heard everyone’s secrets, congrats Agnes and Tim…
By zb on 02.11.09 9:56 pm
…and Dirk…
…and Greer…
well I need some drink so… let’s see what I can find in this damned 1982 mini bar…
By zb on 02.11.09 10:11 pm
Well done everyone for sharing your secrets, it was more than I could manage - all my secrets are either too boring or too shameful even for the Contrast Podcast.
Congratulations to Tim & Agnès, Dirk & Mrs. Loser, and Greer. Get some sleep while you can!
Further to last week’s comments, I think the intros are an essential part of CP, an excellent mixture of humour, music trivia and personal revelations, sometimes all at once. Perhaps FiLip-p-p-p-e’s tongue of lurve was a bit too near the bone for Mr. Durango!
By Christophosphorous on 02.11.09 10:22 pm
Thanks everyone. I’m not sure I can stress just how much I’ve wanted to tell you all our news … and now it’s out I’m looking forward to all the jokes about it being called Paul, Neil, Will or Crosby Stills Nashan.
Tart … I wanted to welcome you officially too .. so welcome! I shall be expecting many more fine contributions from you in the future.
… and Chris. As far as I heard it FiLip-p-p-p-e’s tongue of lurve wasn’t too near the bone .. it was right on it making a full frontal attack!
By tim.young on 02.11.09 11:50 pm
Dirk! I just got to your part, what wonderful news
:):) Darling, so very very happy for you, xoxoox!
By Tart on 02.12.09 12:46 am
Dirk and Greer: big fat congratulations to you both and your bundles of joy.
Stuart: Good Luck!!
Linda: that would be immensely fun! DOn’t know that I could work it, but I know it would be a blast, considering the company!
James: You’re never gonna get it!
John Q: Madder Rose. See, you knew we weren’t all bad over here!
By nat on 02.12.09 1:15 am
Geeze Louise, I should really listen all the way through before commenting, I see that now.
Greer, you too?! Wow, Congrats!!!
JC!!!!!!! You make me giggle like such a school girl, can I say in front of all these people how much I adore ya? And Duran Duran? OMG yesssss! Dance with me, hunni! xoxoxoxxoxoxoxo
ZB, I love that Rats song, excellent stuff there.
Linda, you’re assuming that none of the ladies will be hungover :-p… but I do love that cover of “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun,” there is absolutely no way to improve on Cyndi Lauper except by adding a Spanish accent!
Nat, I forgive ya.
And Tim, thanks for the welcome, I’ve been meaning to do this for a long time, but I was scared of you all for some odd reason. So thanks for including me, all of you xoxoxoxo
By Tart on 02.12.09 1:33 am
I have another secret: I never usually get round to listening to the CP until the next is almost out. This week I’ve listened to it on the night it came out. Congratulations from myself also to Tim and Agnes (whose name I would adorn with the appropriate accent were I not clumsily typing this on a iPod Touch), to Sexy- and Mrs Loser, and to Greer for their forthcoming bundles of joy, Stuart for his impending physical contribution to charitable causes (I am currently very unemployed, but what I can spare I shall), Tart for being brave enough to join during one of the most personal ‘casts to date (welcome), and everybody else for these glimpses into the parts of themselves they generally choose to keep hidden.
Except me, who kind of chickened out at the last minute and selected a different variety of secret that fit the song my methodology and I selected. Next week’s theme, and the song(s) already selected, should allow me reveal what I had intended to share with you prior to my second thoughts. Nat has already somewhat encouraged me to take this direction, so we shall, as ever, see.

damn, i hate when i’m not home and can’t listen to the podcast right away!
i will be back asap!
By mjrc on 02.12.09 3:40 am
Tim & Agnes, Dirk and Mrs Loser and Greer - this is what I love about the CP. It’s so strange to think that I could be so happy for people that I’ve never met, over on the other side of the world. Best wishes to all of you, what exciting news!
Great to hear from you Tart - an excellent debut!
Loved your song choice Marcy, and yours too Linda, that’s a great cover.
Fantastic intro JC, very funny!
Nat, a bold confession made even better by the extremely fitting song choice!
Well done everyone…top episode.
By Agnes on 02.12.09 6:52 am
Excellent stuff, congratulations to Tim (*smug* I knew that secret) and Dirk and Greer. And Tricia, I wouldn’t worry, accents are things other people have.
JC you have No Business having a dig at me about Howie. And Tim I can’t believe you put me next to the DFDs.
By adam on 02.12.09 9:50 am
yep, tart, those rats are another great find by these mississippi’s gem-diggers
By zb on 02.12.09 4:49 pm
wow! three babies!!! maybe they’ll all grow up to find out that their parents all “knew” each other through this marvelous thing called the contrast podcast. i’m so happy for all of you. : )
linda–i am THERE in ‘10! seriously, let’s do it.
nat–you are being WAY too hard on yourself. that is one of my absolute favorite songs, btw. it’s so all-purpose!
tart–big, big welcome! i knew you could do it!
stuart–good luck with the marathon–you’ll have to let us know how it went.
tricia–never in a million years would i have pegged you as from brooklyn. i’ll have to listen even more carefully from now on!
i’m sorry to leave anyone out so i’ll just thank everyone for a terrific episode. it’s definitely a keeper.
By mjrc on 02.12.09 5:09 pm
I was up way too late last night listening to everyone’s secrets! What a great episode. It sounds like the CP will be a lot more sleep-deprived in the near future. Congrats Agnès & Tim and Dirk & Mrs. Loser!!
Welcome Tart and good luck Stuart!
Tricia, I never would’ve guessed about Brooklyn either, I hope we get to hear it some day
.
I enjoyed this so, so much, thank you everybody!
By Greer on 02.12.09 5:28 pm
Congratulations Agnes and Tim! Some of your favorite contributors were born in July! (Yay Nat!)
Congratulations also Dirk and Mrs. Loser! What fantastic news!
And congratulations also to Greer!
All this fantastic news is almost overwhelming
My secret seemed kind of lame in comparison
I loved this episode!
By James! on 02.12.09 10:35 pm
james, if we were all having babies then it wouldn’t have been as contrasty, you know? : )
By mjrc on 02.12.09 10:55 pm
I think Anna from Desert Island Jukebox/Music iQuiz is also bloggily absent at the moment because of baby things. That’s nearly enough for a five a side team. Is anyone having twins?
By adam on 02.12.09 11:48 pm
maybe t’s time to build a contrast nursery somewhere in the right column ?
;)
By zb on 02.12.09 11:59 pm
We’ll have to round off these text boxes a little, too. Can’t have any sharp corners about the place.
By Eiron Page on 02.13.09 1:02 am
No more babies for this old lady! YAY! I mean, err, it was fun while it lasted.
By nat on 02.13.09 2:18 am
Oh Baby!!! What wonderful news for Tim, Dirk and Greer! I love happy secrets. I’ll throw the virtual/cyber baby shower.
Go Stuart!! Run, run, run. You most definitely can do it, especially for such a good cause.
Welcome Tart! I used to love that song, especially how it begins.
I’m only halfway through the podcast…got to get to those other secrets. Really great all!(for Marcy and Greer…”awl”)
By Tricia on 02.13.09 1:40 pm
Due to painful computer issues, I have listened to only the first three secrets, and I’m dying to hear the rest. But I just had to extend joyful congratulations to Tim and Agnes!!! That must be the best secret of all.
Marcy and Nat: let’s plot!
:)
By Linda on 02.14.09 1:01 am
This is the third time I’ve tried to Comment! I don’t think my Mac at work likes me doing anything other than work, even outside what are laughably called my ‘core hours. So back at home on the ‘trusty’ (I wish) laptop… First, thanks to all the good luck messages - it really means a lot and after I read the first few on Thurs morning, I went out for a morning 5-mile run and was smiling for at least 10 mins! Second, HUGE congrats to the Baby Bunch - magnificent news. Dirk, I’ll email you when I get a chance. Tim, it was about 12 minutes before I started thinking: “I hope he’ll still have time for the CP when Young The Younger has arrived…!”
By Stuart on 02.14.09 12:08 pm
Just listening to this now whilst downloading some files from Megaupload. During Duran Duran I had to enter the code RIO! Coincidence or evidence of a greater power at work?
By John Q on 02.15.09 12:18 pm
I thoroughly enjoyed that CP. But James, honestly, the not wanting to sleep? How I wish that were me!! I think the baby years, where sleep is not always a given, has made me crave sleep maybe way too much!! Dirk…quick…sleep as much as you can this last week! (although I imagine you are so excited it makes it hard to sleep)
And Nat, all I could think of as I listened to your song was “C’mon Martha, tell us how you really feel”. Great choice.
I’d love to tag along to SXSW. How fun that sounds. I imagine you blogger ladies would hands down know all the best bands to see.
By Tricia on 02.16.09 12:19 am
My wife says that I’m just in training for late-night feedings. I say that when the time comes, set me up in a rocker with the complete series of some TV show on DVD and I’ll be set all night
By James! on 02.16.09 12:22 am
tricia–you are more than welcome to come with us! the more the merrier. : )
i would echo your advice about the sleep–all you new parents should try to stockpile some zzzs . . . if only it worked that way!
By mjrc on 02.16.09 12:29 am
Dearest friends,
thanks VERY much for all your nice words, I’ll pass them all on to Mrs. Loser and the baby, which should be with us tomorrow, if things turn out according to plan. Congratulations also to Greer (I e-mailed Tim before)!!
And no, I didn’t sleep pretty much last week, I’m afraid I partied instead!!
Cheerio,
Dirk
By Dirk on 02.16.09 8:07 am
Ah, FINALLY got to listen!! How wonderful this week was!!
Dearest TiM & Agnes - hooray! Glad to see you’re producing a heir that will assume the CP throne upon your demise.
Congrats Stuart! I hate running too, but recently started for the sake of my health. Good luck with the fundraising - you’ll find a small donation from me on your page!
Dearest Greer, another bundle of joy! And only four weeks to go - how marvellous! Congrats & best wishes. Remember to breathe…
Dearest Dirk, that is just fantastic! As an adoptee myself, I heartily approve. Congratulations - my heart brims over for you & Mrs Loser!
Dearest Tart! Your voice!! It’s lovely!!! Sigh… Welcome to the CP Nation.
Dearest Tricia, I know how the accent thing goes. Once upon a time i had a perfect BBC accent. No joke. Then it got prodded, pulled, and twisted into the odd thing that it is today.
Dearest Eiron, I think you must be the original Three Card Monty.
Dearest Adam! HoJo!! Bounce Right Back! I’ve not heard that for over 20 years, methinks. Confession: I boogied like a mad eighties machine while that was playing. But you do realize that by submitting this you’ve ceded the moral high ground in the DfD war. Which means…
Dearest JC, you win!!!
Dearest Marcy, you’ll always be gorgeous, no matter what age you are. Fact.
John Q, once upon a time I thought exactly like you…
Dearest Linda, you gotta gotta GOTTA do it!!
Rhiannah, I could never condone such behavious, but it sounds like she had it coming to her!!
And yay for chanteuses!!
Dearest James, I episodically share the same affliction. Winging bags of empathy your way…
And Dearest Nats! My gob is well and truly smacked!! But at least you’ve seen the error of your ways. And we still all love you.
CP Nation, you get more fantastic with each passing week…
