169 CD swap 3 (part 1)

Those of you who have been following the podcast will know that each year the most prolific contributors organise a little cd swap.
This year, thanks to Dirk from Sexy Loser, it has a theme based on the alphabet. Each participant had to make a mix CD based on a different letter to send with a lovely postcard. Then they had to choose a song from the CD they received to introduce here. If it sounds complicated don’t worry … just have a listen and enjoy!
You can see pictures of the participants in our glorious gallery!

What a stunning 75 or so minutes. Everything you could want in a Contrast Podcast….. and more.
I feel honoured to be part of such a fantastic group of people. And as I said over at the photopage…so lovely and handsome as well.
Roll on for Part 2. Does it really have to wait till next Tuesday????
By jc on 06.23.09 11:26 pm
i know! it’s like opening one present on christmas eve and then having to wait until the next morning–only we have to wait a week!
By mjrc on 06.23.09 11:59 pm
Ok, so first things first. The Specials and The Specials AKA can be counted as the same?
This was a great CD Swap and we’ve only heard half of it!
I’m just reaching the end of my first listen and I’m kind of sad that it’s almost over! Thank goodness for the repeat button!
By James! on 06.24.09 4:34 am
I just wanted to add that I DID look at Tim’s link before I made my assumption about The Specials.
Oh and also I have that song (Possibly also from Adam?) as being by The Specials. So really, I’m just getting confirmation…and wasting internet space! BWAHAHAHAHA!
By James! on 06.24.09 4:36 am
James, if you count The Specials and The Special AKA as the same I guess you can expect a writ from Jerry Dammers in the morning.
Brilliant stuff, all, and thank you for the lovely words, Greer.

Adam - So they’re different?! I can’t seem to get these assumptions right at all!
By James! on 06.24.09 3:11 pm
The Special AKA was Jerry Dammers and a few other originals who kept going after The Specials had effectively broken up - releasing Nelson Mandela, the album ‘In The Studio’ and some co-production things (perhaps most notably Rhoda’s astonishing single ‘The Boiler’) - I don’t think anybody would complain about them being counted together, though (and I bet lots of people think they can hear Terry Hall somewhere on ‘Nelson Mandela’) - but Jerry Dammers is the one Special who isn’t involved in the reformation and touring that’s going on now. What with Madness and Mike Barson, is there something about two-tone bands and keyboard players?
By adam on 06.24.09 3:15 pm
adam, you are like an encyclopedia! so much knowledge packed into that head . . .
i loved this episode, people. i think of these swap podcasts as being double-approved, because the person who made the cd thought the song was worth including on the cd and then the person who received it liked it well enough to choose it, thereby giving it the double seal of approval, if you will!
simply splendid.
By mjrc on 06.24.09 5:05 pm
Ok, I’ll group them together and everyone promise not to tell Jerry Dammers. Ok?
By James! on 06.24.09 5:16 pm
I agree this is a great episode, can’t wait for next week!
By Greer on 06.24.09 7:00 pm
Loved every minute! I especially liked Matthew’s WTF moment. lol. Such a great mix of songs. I wish I could see all of the cd contents.
By Tricia on 06.25.09 9:21 pm
It never ceases to amaze me how much music there is out there that I never knew existed. Great episode, looking forward to part 2!
By Agnes on 06.26.09 6:32 am
Tricia - I agree. Maybe we can get everyone to post the tracklists in this comments section?
By James! on 06.26.09 3:06 pm

And, JC/Dirk…I LOVE “Like An Animal”. Grrrrr8.
By Tricia on 06.30.09 1:01 am
Tricia, thanks, and yes it was hot and sunny, which is welcome after the non-summer we’ve had so far in the northeast!
By nat on 06.30.09 1:13 am
Dirk, I was given the letter ‘H’ according to Tim’s email, so I based the CD around all the various homes I had lived in, and songs which reminded me strongly of those specific places.
Suppose I should have mentioned that somewhere.
By Matthew on 07.02.09 1:26 pm
Eeek i’ved not been keeping up! Tomorrow I’ll have all 40 or so tracks listed that I received from FiL
By tart on 07.03.09 4:43 am
Well, Matthew, now THAT makes sense! I was a bit astonished ‘cos Tim told me he gave the ‘F’ to you … and for the life of me I couldn’t figure out what the CD might possibly have to do with ‘F’ … but what the heck: the CD is awesome and that’s the important thing!
