184 1-2-3-4 intros (part 1)

The theme for this episode, thought up by Kevin from Let Me Educate You, is songs with the most excellent of count-ins. We had so many contributions that the whole thing had to be cut into two with more to come next week. So count to four and get happy.

1. Thanks for the shout-out Greer :) It really is a fantastic album, isn’t it?

2. Do you think that Rancid blatantly ripped off “Little Bitch” in their song “Time Bomb”? I played it in the “Time” episode, go have a listen and let me know what you think

3. I really enjoyed this first half and I can’t imagine how the second half could possibly match it! I loved the Greenland is Melting, Kathleen Edwards, Steve Earle, and Old Blind Dogs songs and it was great to hear Travis again. I really need to pull out my “The Man Who” and give it a spin.

4! HAPPY 100th SUBMISSION TO MARCY!!! I’m sure I’m not alone in saying that your voice is one that makes the CP nation feel like home :)

wow, talk about contrast!!! Micky, your song is just gorgeous, thank you so much

(part 2, cause I didn’t refresh the page, grrr) JC of course, the Clash had to be represented. Chris, is this the first time we’ve had a video accompaniment? Cool idea! Adam, you cracked me up, haha! Dirk, that’s a gorgeous song, I’ve never heard before.

And I have to tell you guys that the boys from Greenland Is Melting have been emailing me, telling me that people have been hittin up their site and downloading their album (which is free) which is making them super happy. So thank you, darlin’s … it seems like music blogging is worthwhile when things like this happen, cause I basically live to make musicians happy, xoxo (uh, that last bit isn’t really a joke)

Tart - I’m a musician.

Tart….as of this very second, I too am a musician.

Males: sooooooo predictable.

Heh. I’ve appeared on a Musicians introduce… episode.

And I was on a ‘bands with ridiculous names’ episode.

I liked this one a lot, it’s been difficult to find the time to sit and listen properly for a bit - I loved hearing Planet Gong, not been there for about twenty five years, (fuck, quarter of a century ago, fuck). Lovely mix of things. James, let’s be nice and call the Rancid song a Homage! As opposed to theft.

A great episode, friends: really enjoyed it a lot! And thanks ever so much, Shaun, for dedicating this fantastic tune to me. Did you do it because you know that I smoke way too much?! I’m tempted to use it for next week’s ‘Mondegreen’ - theme again, because all the way back home from work in the car - and later in the evening as well - I was singing/shouting along with the “Eins-Zwei-Drei-Vier” - bit …. until I had a look above this morning to find out it’s actually titled ‘I Spy Dry Fear’ … priceless!!

… and, JC, stealing the Clash was not enough for you, I found out: you also stole my “enjoy” - bit: well, I never!!

not for the first time my friend…and it wont be the last time either.

Can I just say that I’m still a musician.

dirk–that’s too funny!

james–thank you! i had no idea i’d reached the magic number. wow.

i’m off to listen now.

Ok musicians, we’ve got to squeeze a podcast theme out of this somehow. My current cheesy, final question when interviewing bands is “if you could be any instrument what would you be and what virtuoso would you choose to play you?” Theme-ify it? You’ll be rewarded xoxo (JC, as of this instant, hahah What instrument do you play, pray tell? xx)

I play triangle.

If I may be allowed to answer tart’s current cheesy, final question:-

If I could be any instrument, I would naturally choose to be the bagpipes.

Virtuoso to squeeze, suck and blow me???? Clare Grogan.

Now those were some very entertaining comments!!

Great selections as always. Marcy…I am in awe of you sending in an intro without hearing it. I still get stage fright sometimes when I turn my green light on.

Adam..excellent!

hahah JC, well chosen indeed!! Funny that you play such a sharp pointy thing and yet desire to be such a soft squishy one ;)
