What a highly excellent group of songs. I especially enjoyed the histories of the singers, some of whom I did not know or didn’t know well. I bought the Slim Dusty song before it even finished playing.

Thanks so much, Nat, for Warren Zevon, who is a big favorite of mine too. His ex-wife Crystal wrote a very good biography of him called “I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead.”
:)

Trying to do a two-hour radio show I called “Reanimating the Dead”, I would like to promote the theory that thanks to digital distribution and recording methods, the majority of musicians of whose work we have some record are alive and working today.

As an amateur cyclist, I listened with despair to the fact that two of the artists were killed as a result of cycling accidents.

Listening to this….I feel I cheated as I didnt pick something that was the definitive last recording.

Sorry

JC, you did good. I thought this was kind of a tough theme, which is why I did not come up with anything at all.

JC, I thought that pick was perfect. Both of them are gone, so it’s so bittersweet.

Hey JC,

it can NEVER be ANY wrong to play something by Joe Strummer. And/or J. Cash.

Difficult as this theme was, can you imagine how tough “Artists’ First Recordings” would be?

I thought this was a great episode from Drake to Zevon. Especially enjoyed the Billie Holiday and the Jimi Hendrix.

Can’t get enough of the Slim Dusty. I also was very moved by Jeremy’s intro.

That was a whole new J. Strummer for me. Great stuff.
