015 Beatles Covers

What wouldn’t Jesus do?

Well, I checked and as far as I can see he never did a Beatles cover, but lots of other people did. Lots and lots and lots of other people. The contributors to this week’s podcast have thrown together what they believe to be the best of these covers into a frenzy of fabulousness that will have you singing along.

I quite like this one, Tim. Thanks everyone!

I had no idea Marilyn Manson did a Beatles cover.

Tim, small favour, could you add (with Strings Attached) in parethesis after Abra Moore? The URL is:
http://www.stringsattached.org
since they were the one’s really performing that even. Abra Moore supplied vox for that one song. Thanks!

Yeah, the “Come Toguether” version from Marilyn Manson was on a concert in their “Portrait of an American Family release party”, the party they did in 1994 to celebrate the release of their first album (Portrait of an American Family), and was never recorded or released. So, the only way to get it is to grab one copy of the fan recordings of that concert, like I did, or to listen to Contrast Podcast, like you did ;-)

looks good, hopefully twill cheer me up after hearing about syd barretts death, which has put me on a bit of a downer. keep up the good work tim!

BTW, a part of Marilyn Manson’s version of “Come Together” was frequently used in the beggining of their song “My Monkey”.

Changes made Cindy … hope they are OK.

Yeah Jamie. I’m sad about Syd too. :(

Thanks Tim!
Cool nuggets of info Mind Booster Noori. I’ll need to listen to My Monkey now.

Gosh…I really REALLY love the French version of “Yesterday.” It’s already a pretty song to begin with but somehow it sounds better with a French woman crooning.

That U2 version is news to me. I always dug the Breeders version. I’m embarrassed to say I got more familiar with that one before I got to know the real deal.

Thanks for this podcast. Very cool.

yeah i’m a bit worried about the u2 version. love love love the original and the breeders one, but i’m not exactly the biggest u2 fan…actually i’m still trying to download…seems to be taking an age this week for some reason.

Ryuichi Sakamoto’s ‘Day Tripper’ is fun as well.

i also thought about putting one of richie havens amazing beatles interpretations on but the fall were too good to be overturned i’m afraid.

Damn, these things fill up fast. No Smashing Pumpkins for the next ‘cast, sorry…

yeh its getting to be a bit of a rush now to get things in on time. maybe contrast could go two times a week?!?!??!?! part one on tuesday, part two on friday?

that too much work tim?

Um … yes .. probably a bit too much work I’m afraid! Maybe it’s time to expand!!?

Don’t worry Simon .. I think someone else might have been listening to Siamese Dream when they were 16!

If I slipped you a fiver, you could let me know next week’s theme in advance…

Mike: Unfortunately “Ryuichi Sakamoto” is signed to Sony, and I don’t support artists signed in such record companies that are more interested in turning art into a product than about the art, the artist and the listeners, and so filling their discs with DRM restrictive technologies… No, Sakamoto for me is now a big no no.

My email program tells me that you’re email address, as posted in the blog, is invalid and won’t allow my mp3 to be sent. Is there any other email address I could send my submission to?
