030 A song I like by a band I don’t

This week’s arguement forming theme was suggested by Amy from Shake Your Fist and Matt from Earfarm. Being such opinionated beings the Contrast Podcasters seem to have had little trouble coming up with something they like from those they usually don’t!

Hey Fraser,
your unknown singer has a name :
Jason McNiff

Lyle, all my trans-gendered African whale friends make fun of me for not having a blow hole, so I kinda know how you feel. Fuckin’ sucks, man. I got your back.

Man, there were some truly awful cuts this week. I can’t stand Chumbawamba !!
And Creed, awhhh, that bit when they stop to say ‘ Got myself a beer’. NOOOO!

Looking forward to next weeks one !!
All the best

Fraser sent me the following explaination for his track choice …

“I hate this band because I love this song, but I don’t know who they are and so I can’t go and buy their record, so I hate them… But then I guess that raises your point that if I did hear more of their music then it might turn out that I liked their music, then I wouldn’t hate them anymore and then it would be a band that I liked and just one more good song. But on the other hand, what if I did hate all of the rest of their music (which I feel like I’m likely to do at this point) then it would be exactly what your concept called for. Though then again, there’s always the vague possibility that they actually are a band called “No Artist” and this is in fact, a song called “Audio Track 01.” In which case again I would hate them just for being so darn pretentious and it would fit the spirit of the podcast perfectly”

So knowing who it is should make him happy!

This is fantastic! I actually laughed out loud as I read the listing this week. I was going to contribute Train’s “Calling All Angels,” but thought that would be too “mainstream.” Now I see I should have gone for it. Creed? Deep Blue Something? This show was a great idea. Please do a part 2 sometime so I can get my arse in gear and contribute! 🙂

I am somewhat relieved I can’t listen to this week’s podcast yet…still away from home and using a Windows 95 machine with a slow connection…I don’t think my ears could take Tubthumping! And Jenny Lewis was my second choice, so it’s good to know that someone else isn’t a fan of hers! FiL, do you not like Dylan as a vocalist Cuz, man, his songs are the shite.(I feel this way about Waits myself.)

nat–that’s funny that you would have picked jenny lewis as your second choice, because i thought our intros were quite similar, too. great minds think alike, i guess! 😉

I was laughing all through out this CP, Tim started it off with his intro. Cheers Tim you are awesome!

And for the most part I actually agree with most of the track selections. But I have to give an “Amen” to the following:

Matt, thank you! I have always wondered what the obsession people have with the Smashing Pumpkins and it is good to know there is someone who has wondered the same thing.

FiL, YOU KICK SO MUCH ASS!!! Thank you!

And a big round of applause to everyone who participated in this CP. I think it is awesome.

Of course a big thank you to Tim without him we would be lost. 🙂

FiL, you are my hero.

Stupid hippies.

Thanks for the lovely comment Rachel .. you are awesome too!

I’m not sure I can agree with you guys about the Smashing Pumpkins though. The bass sound on ‘Hummer’ is delicious so I just can’t hate them …. and Jenny Lewis … I see it’s just the girls getting upset with her 😉

i don’t see anything wrong with the decemberists. at all. which is why i’m surprised to see them on this podcast.

matt matt matt…..the pumpkins was my first major rock concert. but it’s okay, i still like you.
